Griffintown

by

In October 2012, the city of Montreal unveiled its plans concerning the renewal of Griffintown, to change what was once an industrial area into a family-friendly neighbourhood. To achieve this goal, the city plans to add parks, play areas, bike paths and allowing private developers to build many medium-rise condominiums.

Protecting the historical look and feel of old structures while building new apartment buildings is a key part of the Griffintown project. Over a billion dollars in private investment have been put towards the many condo buildings now being built. The project is planned to be completed by 2025.

Beginning in mid-2013, several large scale condo projects started with views of downtown and the Lachine Canal. Many young professionals and families are drawn to Griffintown for its proximity to the downtown business core, the services and restaurants that are cropping up more and more.
